Ethiopia Bench Maji Geisha
DESCRIPTION
This is Gesha in its most original form. Jasmine and tangerine over a bergamot-tinged acidity, with a tea-like finish that stays long after the cup is done.
Bench Maji is the wild forest near Ethiopia's border with South Sudan that gave the Gesha variety its name. The coffee grown here today is still wild-forest heirloom population. Not the selectively bred descendants that built Panama's reputation, but the original genetic material, growing as it always has. Fully washed at 1,700 to 1,800 metres, this lot from Kebir Coffee strips the process back and lets the varietal speak clearly. Bright florals, clean citrus, and a structure that's unmistakably Gesha before anyone shaped it into something else.
Best as filter. Brew it light, let it cool a little, and pay attention to how the bergamot develops as it opens up.
