When Coffee Meets Literature: Echoing Local Writers at ECHO

When Coffee Meets Literature: Echoing Local Writers at ECHO

At ECHO, we’re always on the lookout for ways to reflect ideas and feelings, creating space for what people are thinking, building and becoming. That belief shaped our collaboration with Sing Lit Station, a local organisation supporting Singapore writers. Instead of treating our coffee bags as packaging alone, we invited selected writers to contribute short excerpts from their work. Each bag carried a printed passage alongside its origin and tasting notes.

When customers brought beans home, they weren’t just taking coffee. They were taking a piece of someone’s writing with them.

Grounds for Stories

Creativity in Singapore often lives in the margins. We’ve always believed that if ECHO could reflect modern rhythms, it could also create space for reflection. Partnering with Sing Lit Station felt like a natural extension of that.

For the writers, it meant reaching audiences beyond traditional literary spaces. For our community, it meant encountering local voices in an unexpected way. The collaboration reaffirmed something for us: a café can be more than a place to consume, and instead, be a space to connect disciplines – craft, culture & conversation.

The response showed us that we were on the right track. People lingered longer over the packaging, some came back asking about the authors, while others shared the excerpts online. A coffee bag became a conversation starter for something beyond the coffee itself.

For us, it was a way of living out what ECHO stands for — not just serving drinks, but reflecting the creative energy around us.
